At least I don't have to choose which exam voucher I want from the AskCorp promotion unless of course I have also passed the SBS 2008 Beta which I don't expect to find out about for another month or so.

Good comment about the expectations - I don't think many of the critics clearly explained exactly what they were looking for like you have.

When I saw the agenda I thought how can you do Level 300 on both SBS and EBS in just one day? The surface area of both these products means you could have a TechEd track for each of these products.

I think Robbie did an excellent job and also in a way that was inclusive of all partners. Both Dean and Wayne also did well.

What I hope you also focus on is trigger events and compelling reasons to engage. When working with a pipeline, try and envision a tube that is only slight larger at the top, the lead queue, than it is at the bottom.

In this way you know you are focused on activity that matters and not spinning your wheels.

I think most people would be disappointed to find out that that wasn't the case. So I think that if you have received ANY assistance from a vendor then all you need to do is disclose that. Most people won't have an issue or look on what you do with any less regard but they would like to know I believe (I would).

If you are able to get equipment from a supplier for the production of your content then that is great, unfortunately not everyone is able to do that. Again, I think that all you need to do is simply mention what assistance was provided and most people won't have a problem. If you don't and that fact is made public at a later stage I feel it does diminish from your content.

I don't think you need to go as far as put a "sponsored by" logo but you should mention that you received assistance from XYZ.

Looking forward to see the Mackie content coming soon.

Wasn't really focused on if the content creator gets paid by the consumers of the content, I did mention it to widen the scope of discussion, thanks for playing.

I will be putting out a number of things I think are cool extending the soon to be released MS products aimed at the SMB Market (SBS and EBS 2008)to do some of the things I want to I need to get some assistance from some vendors by way of loan eqiptment.

The reality is also with some of the things such as submitting to the Heroes Happen Competition the content can't have been published elsewhere. So I will be holding back so of the things for a while.

So the discussion is if Vendors ask you to review products and you do does that make you a Vendor Whore?? If you ask a Vendor to help you with resources to do things you think are worthwhile is that different?

For me you won't see a sponsor me link any time soon not to say it won't happen but not to say never but it is not on my mind right now.

re: "Community Content" does this drive adoption?

David,

As a creator of "community content" myself I am always happy to give something back to the general community that has been a much used source of assistance for me over the years.

The content I create is also aimed I what I believe are holes in the market for products that I use and recommend. If they drive people to adopt them all the better for suppliers who have created a good product.

The problem I see is that there are far too few people actually putting content back into the community and far too many simply sucking this for all they are worth to improve their business. In most cases there is not the issue of lost sales through competition but many fail to understand the VALUE of the information they are consuming without even an acknowledgement.

Given our locality, how many resellers do you know that actively blog or create other content? Not many at all. I think in the end in the face of an unbalanced contribution from members of the user community most content providers realize that they need to run a business and pay bills. Anything they create is generally outside that and if they are not receiving fair compensation or recognition for their efforts then asking for a few bucks is not a major issue I believe.

Look at the value you receive from something like Geoff's Swing Migration. Big time savings and well worth the investment. Not only does it help him provide better content but it also shows an appreciation for all the work he has done for free over the years.

I understand people's desire for free information for being part of the "community" but generally you find there but a few providers. Many will continue to produce content for free (I know I will) but in a commercial world if you do things for free you'll go broke and then not be able to produce any more content.

If a "community" member has produced something of value and charges a few bucks for the privilege I say good luck to them and offer them every assistance in their endeavor. In the end most are not asking for very much money at all. The idea being that if most people contributed a small amount then it would add up to something worthwhile for the content producer.

Alas, that doesn't seem to be the case.
