During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I’ll be growin a moustache. That’s right I’m bringing the Mo back because I’m passionate about changing the state of men’s health.
Male health is a major issue, did you know:
- Men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy of males is 6 years less than females.
- Every year in Australia 2,700 men die of prostate cancer – more than the number of women who die from breast cancer.
- Depression affects 1 in 6 men…Most don’t seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide. Rates of suicide are more than double the national road toll.
Help me change the face of men’s health by sponsoring my mo.
My company Synergistic Network Solutions will match dollar for dollar funds I raise, now we do have to put a limit on it or we could find ourselves in cash flow double jeopardy. I'm not going to say how much we will tip in because I'd find it hard to get sponsors once we reach that target so try to push us up there anyway.
Please go to http://www.movember.com.au/au/sponsor, enter my Rego number which is 15076 and your credit card details. All donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.
The money raised by Movember will be used to change the face of men's health by creating awareness and funding research into prostate cancer and male depression.
Movember culminates at the end of the month at the Gala Partè where I’ll be parading my Mo on the cat walk for a chance to be crowned the Man of Movember. If you want to be part of this great night you’ll have to purchase a Gala Parte ticket for $33.00 (inc GST).
So is this the beginning of certifications to build process and business skills. Is this going to be to Prince2 what MOF is to ITIL? Will people use this certification to show they can speak the language of Project Managers or will it be a bit IT Project Plus? a thing to infer Senior Engineers or Team Leaders actually have project manager skills.
I remember from my Prince 2 Course "this is to teach a methodology NOT project management skills" I will be interested to see what form this takes. In case it is not clear I work with folk who value Prince 2 and ITIL so in the past this these are boxes I've ticked so I wonder if this will be a check box or something I can learn things from.
Instead, the company (Microsoft) will now be going after professional project managers with a new line of Microsoft Office Project 2007 certifications that build upon the Project Management Institute's vendor-neutral framework. Microsoft Learning Group General Manager Lutz Ziob will officially announce the track next week, to coincide with the Project Management Institute Global Congress meeting taking place in Seattle.

Jeff Alexander is a IT Pro Evangelist at Microsoft and will be speaking about the upcoming Exchange Server 2007 and Windows Server "Longhorn" products
Great to see Jeff will be doing some sessions in Canberra that everyone can come along to. The venue can seat 85 People, I know this because I dream of the Canberra Windows User Group needing to remove the partition one day. So come along and see Jeff do his thing I must say I've not looked too much at Exchange 2007 so I'll be there for sure.

So up side folk got to hear about NAP, saw Vista RC2 and Office 2007 B2TR, plus my really cool new demo environment my new Shuttle.
Overview of the suckyness here on the upside I have some volunteers in the pipe for doing sessions so there might be something on MOM and some Audit/Compliance topics but next time I speak it will likely be DPM 2.0 Beta cause Data Protection is what I do.
Seems we are all buying Shuttle format systems for demos but what about this puppy? The 5GHz Project would be kind of sweet once I funded Splash screens and goggles of course for the front row the video is kind of cool but.

Yes that's right Windows Vista, Office and Exchange 2007 oh yeah some Developer thingy's too but I'm sure Athena will talk about that.

Deteriorating magnetic reel tapes - 3000 of them - took SpectrumData, a Western Australia data recovery and storage company to the petrol-rich Ogaden Basin in Ethiopia.
More than one million files, mainly on 30-year old Russian tapes, were loaded onto disks and digitally photographed by a team using SpectrumData tape recovery software.
Hoooley Doooley that's some DR Implementation makes some of my projects seem a bit half arsed really.
I wonder what it would take to get just 5 Year old data back for the average client? Now take it back to the average SME who was sold on that ultra cheap tape solution when they signed up for one of those online only / call centre sales model tier 2 provider server specials.
Note these guys got back data from what was on tape with seemingly no DR plan, judging by the tape storage conditions.

So cool given that I mostly operate on 3G services this is exactly why I don't have a UMPC today. Hugo can I get one on release day?? You will carry them won't you?
Sierra Wireless will provide embedded wide-area wireless modules to a new Intel ultra mobile PC (UMPC) platform that enables devices to hook up to 3G wireless telecommunications, creating a new way to use a UMPC.

Security vendor Symantec Corp. accused Microsoft on Wednesday of abusing its monopoly in deciding which security products can run on its upcoming operating system.
Symantec said Microsoft Corp., which started selling its own security products in May, is deliberately withholding information needed to develop products that work on Windows Vista.
Symantec are essentially concerned that Microsoft are pushing OneCare and locking them out of offering services to customers using Windows Vista.
Now Microsoft provided a link to when Security Center detected I had no AV installed so I must say I'm surprised that Symantec have a grounds for complaint, except that they didn't get their product linked to possibly due to a relationship issue??? I'm pretty sure Trend Micro won't join in the moaning about Vista Security features.
Now I don't profess to know all the issues with integrating security products into Vista but I notice I have working AV, AntiSpyware, Internet Exploiter content filtering and AntiSpam, so what other integrations are missing?
