Want SBSC but resources are tight? Do you Live in Canberra?

Today I went to the .DotNet User Group here in Canberra well OK you caught me I went to Civic for a Beer with Athena (she runs the group) anyway to get to the point. After the meeting I walked to my car with a quick stop off at BookWare a Tech Book Store in Mort St and to my surprise they have 30-70% off, their landlord is not renewing any leases in their building so next week is their last week until they find a suitable new location.

What does this have to do with being an SBSC? well I found 6 copies of the following books:

  • Small Business Server 2003 Best Practices
  • Advanced Windows Small Business Server 2003 Best Practices
  • Microsoft Small Business Specialist Primer & 70-282 Exam Preparation Guide!
  • The Network Documentation Workbook: A Guide for Windows Administrators (Consultant's Edition)

So whay am I excited? The Books are $19.95 Each

So If you use one Book to Pass the Exam, The SBS Books to build your SBS Servers like many SBS Consultants do, AND Document what you did then I think you will be well on your way.

Now if you don't live in Canberra and can wait for the books to get to you, I could be convinced to go buy a set on your behalf.

Can I Virtualize this OS??

A business partner asked me about an application they would need to virtualize for a project they are working on.

I remembered seeing a set of screen shots where a large number of OS Instances were shown running on Virtual Server I think Dugie might have done it, but  could not easily find that, maybe due to Dugie going to Windows Virtualization.com from Virtualserver.tv but I found this site which is VERY comprehensive.

By the way Dan these are the OS/2 Version information listings

[CBRWINUG] July Meeting - OPEN MIC Night

In November last year I thought of having an Open Mic Night but it kept getting pushed backward most recently to make way for Daniel Pearson and his fantastic Crash Dump Analysis Session. I'm going to run the Open Mic Session this month.

My topic Data Protection Manager 2007 - Brick level restore without Brick level Backup and other great data protection features.

I am looking for volunteers to talk on ANY subject for 15 to 30 Minutes, If I have none we will do a much deeper dive into the DPM 2007 Features and a a really close look at some of the application I think will be truly fantastic.

For those going to TechEd I have it on reasonable authority that the DPM Session will be Presented by Jason Buffington the senior technical product manager for Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager. So this session may let you come up with great questions to ask him.

As usual 17:30 for Pizza, Presentations from 18:00. Tuesday 10th July 2007

RSVP David.Mackie@synergistic.com.au by 12:00 9th July 2007 for Catering and Room Config purposes

Let me know if you want to present something by Friday so I can beef up mine on the weekend if we are running the DPM Deep Dive

Hey! Wanna stamp your blog as a SBS Community blog? - E-Bitz - SBS MVP the Official Blog of the SBS "Diva"

With all the discussion of Participation and Contribution of late I think this is a good branding initiative. Thanks Susan.

I am also glad to that it is a Cougar (64Bit SBS) logo so I look forward to renewed activity in the community after the NDA police leave the building.

I feel very positive about the future of the SBS Community and suspect there will be quite a bit of crossover into Home Server and Centro. I know that all three products fit into the offerings Synergistic has planned for MSMO/HO (Micro, Small, Midsized Office / Home Office).

I will start putting up solutions based in the market space not only SBS / Centro but all things I use in Servicing Small Business.

If Susan has inspired you to start contributing I have quoted the code from her blog below.

Hey!  Wanna stamp your blog as a SBS Community blog AND advertise and point everyone to the OFFICIAL SBS blog all at the same time?

---to here--

Put that code in your news section of community server or whatever blog engine you use!

And see how it's now in the right hand side of my blog?

And of course I will be very excited when I can talk and blog about Centro (Mid Market Server) too.
